1 Year

Warning: Super Sappy Post Ahead

Today marks 1 year that I’ve been married to the most wonderful man on the planet.

1 whole year.

1 year since we said “I Do”,
1 year since I spent the entire day with my 3 best girl friends getting ready to walk down the aisle,
1 year since we had Han Solo & Princess Leia cake toppers,
1 year since my mom woke me up with a necklace & a card reading, “dreams really DO come true,”
1 year since we rode in a limo to the airport in Pittsburgh,
1 year since my entire family got together to celebrate our commitment,
1 year since Nile ate Primanti Bros. for breakfast,
1 year since I committed my life & vowed to our sweet Lord above that I would be Nile’s wife, NO MATTER WHAT, until death do us part.

It’s been the best year of my life.

In our 1 year together we’ve relaxed in Mexico and blew money in Las Vegas. We adopted the best doggy in the universe and bought a perfect house to grow our family, start traditions, and make memories. We’ve seen some awesome concerts and explored our wonderful city. We’ve made some of the best friends that we know we can count on for anything. And most importantly, we have miraculously created a new life ~ and we get to meet her in 13 short weeks!

Dreams really do come true.

Speaking of, I have to admit something: I really am not a big fan of “the princess mentality” for little girls. Little girls who are spoiled rotten because they are CONVINCED they are a true princess and deserve anything they want. In the movies, Cinderella, Snow White, Belle,  and Sleeping Beauty were women of good character, always putting others before themselves. Humble, honest, and sweet. How did that wonderful example turn into “the princess mentality” of spoiled, selfish little girls?????

Rant finished.

My point — I do, however, believe in hopes & dreams. I’ve always believed that Cinderella’s dreams that came true for her COULD REALLY HAPPEN in real life. I’ll always believe it because I feel that I am living proof that Prince Charming found me, swept me off my feet, and I am living happily ever after. Dreams do come true. Rock on, Cinderella.

Thank you, Nile, for everything you are to me. I love you so very much!

30 Things {Part 2} + Happy Birthday!

Happy 26th birthday to the greatest man I know!

Go shawty, it’s your birthday.

Nile, thank you for being the B.E.S.T. Hope your birthday is so super special! With candles on top! I love you with all my heart!

In honor of his special day, here is part 2 of my “30 Things I Love About My Husband” challenge I am taking part in with Nan & Pam!

Oh I’m enjoying this challenge SO VERY MUCH.
{See Part 1 Here}

#9: Awesome sense of humor. Laughing is one of the staples in our relationship. We laugh about the DUMBEST THINGS EVER.
#10. He wore Chucks on our wedding day (along with the groomsmen). That automatically puts him in the ‘coolest ever’ category. Am I right?
#11. He does not exhibit or take part in the typical male disgustingness. I’m talking burps, farts, snorts, snot rockets, stinky feet, etc. Now I realize most of these things are acts of nature…. I guess…. but I really appreciate the fact that my husband does not take advantage of the “natural” fact like some men do. (i.e. “I can’t help it honey, it’s natural!”) Especially in public. It’s gross to my husband too. Thank you, God.

#12 . He’s a family man. He comes from a great family and he LOVES my family (this makes me tear up thinking about it!) My parents & brother have always been the LOVES OF MY LIFE (well, until N came along & stole my heart!), so the fact that Nile accepts & loves my family as his own, means the WORLD to me. I also adore the fact that he has a good relationship with his own family, especially his brother! There’s nothing quite like a good sibling relationship!
This is one of my favorite photos ever.
Jake (my bro), Justin (Nile’s bro), and of course, Nile.

#13. He likes the same types of comedy that I do. We always bond on Thursday nights as we watch new episodes of Community, Perfect Couples, Parks & Rec, The Office, and 30 Rock. That’s 2.5 hours of quality “laughing with Nile” time.

#14. He has great taste in music. He has introduced me to some of my favorite bands: The Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons, She & Him, and Newton Faulkner (just to name a few). He has expanded my musical thinking!

#15. Speaking of music, Nile has introduced me to the world of CONCERTS. The only concert I had ever been to before I met Nile was Michael W. Smith at the fair with my parents when I was in like 4th grade. Thank you, sweetie, for opening my eyes to the amazingness that is live music! I experienced John Mayer, Avett, Jack Johnson, BOB DYLAN, GLove, and A.F.I last summer.
This Summer Concert Hopefuls:
(Florence & The Machine, Avett Bros,  Ke$ha, Lady Antebellum, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals)

#16. Lastly, Nile does this thing where he’ll randomly start the sentence with, “so…. what does it feel like to be….” and he’ll end it with things like, “the most beautiful in the land.” or “the greatest cook in the world.” He has on many occasions said (while shopping), “What does it feel like to be the best looking couple in Wal Mart at this very moment?” hahahaha I love it!
I suppose that last one isn’t very difficult to accomplish!

xoxo, your crazy wife lady

Challenge: 30 Things I Love About N (Part 1)

This is the 1st (of 4 total) posts in my 30 day challenge of 30 things I love & appreciate about my husband, Nile. I am so excited about this challenge! I’ll be posting 1 a week for the entire month of April!

Be sure to check out Pamela & Nan’s lists also!!

Here goes…

#1. Nile likes to shop with me & never complains. Doesn’t matter WHERE we are or WHAT we are shopping for. This man never says a word, he actually [dare I say] ENJOYS it!

Summer, Circa 2009. Date to the Indiana State Fair.

#2. The Bob Dylan voice. I’m telling you. He does the BEST Bob Dylan voice & it kills me every time! The best part is that he will start singing songs like “Replay” by Iyaz in this voice. I hope you all get to experience it sometime!

#3. He gets just as excited about household gifts as I do.

This picture says 1,000 words, doesn’t it?

#4. He supports & is involved in my career as a teacher. I often work sporting events at school taking admission tickets and N will just show up and sit there with me just to keep me company. Today, I had to take a trip to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum to prepare for the field trip I’m taking my kids on. Not only did he GO with me to this place crawling with children and germs, he was EXCITED about it!! A couple snapshots of our visit:

Bumblebee prop from the movie Transformers.

Waiting in the massive admission line! Obviously excited!

There was a new exhibit at the museum full of old famous costumes from movies and TV. Vader was N’s favorite.

My favorite was Laverne. Awesome, huh?

#5. He stops when I have to pee. Not sure if you can relate or not, but have you ever been in the car with a driver that DOES NOT want to stop to save time?
My nightmare.
Nile gets to the next exit as fast as he possibly can. If you can relate, you KNOW how valuable this quality is in a man! The appreciation is GREAT.

#6. He eats EVERYTHING I cook, smiles, and says “YUM!” This doesn’t necessarily mean he likes everything, but he always does it to make me feel good because he’s awesome. I can always tell when his “yum” is a REAL “yum” or a make-me-feel-good-because-I’ll-cry-if-he-hate-it “yum”. Either way, he’s always thinking about me 🙂

This dish was a REAL “yum!!”

#7. He hates onions. Now, you’ve got to realize that this is huge for me because I HATE onions [and that’s pretty much the only food I hate!] It is very relieving knowing that I can always omit onions out of recipes and have no complaints from him.

#8. Nile finds things for our unborn children. One of the things I love about him the most is that he wants to have kids. He will find cute things online and in stores and proclaim, “our child HAS to have this!” MY DREAM COME TRUE. One example was tonight, he ran in to Blockbuster to get a video game and comes out with this baby Darth Vader. BABY DARTH VADER! My heart melted.

Okay, all for now! I hope this is inspiring you to tell your significant other (or someone you love) the things you love about them! Happy weekend friends! xo

30 Day Challenge & A Sewing Update

During the month of April, I am joining Nan of The LBD Diaries & Pamela at Road To Joy in blogging about 30 things I love about my husband. They did this last year and invited me this year because I would be considered half of a “couple that makes you want to puke.” And I must say that I’m PROUD to be in that category!

Starting April 1st I will be posting at least once a week about things I love and appreciate about my husband (5-7 things per post until I hit 30!) There are so many blogs written by females that bash or talk negatively of their husbands, so I am proud to take part in this challenge to shed some positive light on this wonderful thing called marriage. It’s also N’s birthday month, how appropriate!!! 🙂

Okay so I woke up with a new sense of motivation! My first goal was to get my new “sewing” room semi-organized. It took all morning!!

It’s still not completely finished. I have to get some storage units, curtains, and hang some pretty things on the bare walls, but doesn’t it look so much more peaceful??? Ahhhh…
Will keep you posted on the rest!!

Giant pile of trash/donations!! It feels so good to purge!!

After my cleaning out spree, I decided to tackle the dreaded drawstring gift pouch again. This time, it didn’t take nearly as long, but I think I still did something wrong! I was actually able to put the drawstring through the top, and it actually looks good from a distance 🙂

Just don’t look too closely at the stitches, they are SO crooked!!! But I’d say I deserve a B+ on this re-do! Don’t think I’ll be wrapping any gifts in it, but I think I could find a use for it here at home!

Project 2: Single sided napkins: Success on the first try! These were actually quite easy…I made 2 beautiful napkins in less than 25 minutes!

Eventually I’ll be able to make double-sided napkins with ease!!

Next 2 Projects: Reusable Grocery Bag & Round Bunting to make banners!

Hoping mine will turn out HALF as cute as the examples!!!
